I have decided to start off this blog with some practical ways to fulfill our personal goals.
1. Get off your “But”
Don’t let your circumstances become an excuse. (e.g., “I would love to train for a half-marathon BUT________.”) This is probably one of the hardest things to deal with in our lives. We make excuses for before we ever get started. We have a tendency to psych ourselves out before we ever get started by using this small 3 letter word. “I will start my diet, BUT not until after New Years Eve.” If we wait for perfect conditions to start something, we will never start. So get off your “But” and get started now.
2. Don’t overthink it!
This is very common for those who are strategic thinkers. Often we think we need to have a plan before we start something or we are doomed to fail. This is sometimes very true, but in the area of personal goals the opposite is true. Extensive planning can often be a fancy way to procrastinate. Instead, get started and you’ll figure things out along the way. It is easier to adjust and refine personal goals, when you have some “skin in the game”. It is important to get started now and not let time get away from your decision.
Remember James 4:17 admonishes us with this… “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
