Follow Jesus through the Gospels, wk1 – approaching the book of Matthew with a Biblical Imagination

Follow-Jesus-graphicIn just one week of our study, we have been introduced to 4 authors, gotten a snapshot of 600 years of history, and learned about the time of Jesus’ arrival.  That’s pretty good coverage for one lesson!

Bible reading for this coming week will bring us to the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and a few of His miracles.  You can read Week Two’s chapters here, on our YouVersion group page.

I also wanted to share a 25 minute video about Matthew this week.  Michael Card is a well-known song-writer and singer – he wrote El Shaddai for Amy Grant in the 80’s and has produced a lot of great music.  In recent years, he has put more focus on video commentaries that spark our imagination and make the Bible come to life.  If you can set aside 25 minutes, A New Identity: The Gospel of Matthew, Part 1, is a great video on the first 4 chapters of Matthew.

You can also download the Week 1 worksheet here.

I pray you will have time to reflect on our memory verse this week and be blessed by its promises:  Because of our God’s merciful compassion, the Dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.  Luke 1:78-79 (HCSB)
